Mike Malaska demonstrates how fitness plays into bunker play.
Doing squats or lunges is a great exercise that helps when it comes to bunkers. When you squat and go down and hold the squat, it is the same as when you set up for a bunker shot. You will feel stability and strength in your legs, which is essential for all kinds of shots in golf.
The lower body is always stable in a bunker shot, and you don’t want your body moving much. You are basically hitting the ball in a squat position.
Your lower body must be stable, so the stronger your legs are, the easier it is to stabilize yourself with the various shots you must make in the bunkers.
