As you turn back your shoulder blades they retract in towards the center and slide along your rib cage. This is loading the scapula. Arm motions in sports like baseball, tennis and swimming also load the scapula. Loading the scapula begins as soon as you start the club back. It stays loaded and holds for most of the swing.
