MIKE’S STORY

Mike’s career has spanned more than 38 years as both a player and instructor. He has worked alongside many of the game’s greats. His students have included multiple PGA and LPGA Tour players, as well as celebrities and prominent political figures throughout the world. Mike began as an instructor working with Jim Flick at the Nicklaus/Flick Golf Schools (1991-2002). He also served as Director of Instruction for the Jack Nicklaus Golf Center in Japan (1992-1995). Mike is currently serving as a consultant to TaylorMade-Adidas Golf Worldwide (since 2002), plus he holds the positions as Worldwide Instruction Director of Jack Nicklaus Golf Academies and the PGA Director of Instruction for Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Mike was named the National PGA Teacher of the Year in 2011. He has shared his expertise as a guest lecturer at the PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit, multiple national corporate functions and as a guest instructor for Golf Channel. Malaska’s instruction expertise has been featured in numerous publications including Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, and PGA Magazine. In 2004, Mike produced his own instructional DVD, “You Are Your Own Swing,” featuring 2.5 hours of both golf and fitness instruction. In 2013, Mike authored and released his first instruction book, “I Feel Your Pain,” to rave reviews (see shop for details).

A graduate of Weber State University in Ogden, Utah and a college All-American in 1974, Mike was inducted into the University’s “Athletic Hall of Fame” in February 1999. Mike has competed in a number of PGA and Champions Tour events over the course of his playing career, including the 1988, 2009, and 2010 PGA Championships, and the 1982 and 1986 U.S. Opens. Recognized as the Utah Section PGA Teacher of the Year (1996), the Southwest Section PGA Teacher of the Year (2010) and the national PGA Teacher of the Year (2011), Mike’s ability to simplify the game and apply common sense to common issues has benefited golfers of every caliber.

MIKE’S APPROACH

Mike bases his golf instruction in swing mechanics and physical fitness to provide students with every advantage on the course. His in-depth understanding of the physical aspects of the body and the golf swing has led to an unsurpassed level of success where athletes improve swing mechanics and sequencing of the body by stretching, strengthening and conditioning programs backed by cutting-edge analytics and technologies.

Mike’s philosophy is simple: Develop skills first. Then, develop an arsenal of shots (i.e, a 230-yard drive, a 150-yard iron shot and a 60-yard pitch shot, chipping and putting from 60 yards in). It isn’t complicated. To see constant progress, you only need a selection of shots that match your skill level. It is a blend of technique and playability.

Mike’s unprecedented rise is due to his popular series of lectures about discovering the inner athlete in students. His candor and quality of information have made him one of the premier presenters to the PGA teaching professionals around the country.”
